The Region 9 Board of Education approved three items to be funded from the Joel Barlow High School capital plan.
A $50,000 flooring replacement project was approved for the media center. The current carpet will be replaced with carpet tiles.
The second item the board approved was $10,000 to purchase a new piano. The $10,000 covers the remaining funds needed to purchase the item; fund raising and donations have already been collected.
The board also approved the purchase of an $8,000 sound system for theater productions. Currently the school rents the equipment.
These projects have been approved to be completed within the 2012-13 school year. Peggy Sullivan, director of finance and operations for ER9, said the approval of these projects will allow the school to proceed in its own time.
Before the allocation of the year-end surplus from the operating budget, the balance of the capital reserve fund was $63,650. With the allocation of $216,000, the remaining balance is $279,650.
Other approved items for the 2012-13 year are the $60,000 building management system upgrade, and a $50,000 consulting fee for stadium facility improvements.
