The town’s Holiday Tree Lighting will be held on the Redding Town Green on Saturday, Dec. 1, starting at 3:30 p.m.
It will feature a mixture of performance and “sing-a-long” music again this year. Residents, or groups of residents, who would like to lead a holiday song are requested to contact Rob Blick, Park and Recreation Department director, at 203-938-2551. At about 3:40 p.m., the John Read Middle School Choir will be performing and leading some songs. This will be followed by songs lead by community members. The Joel Barlow High School Select Choir will perform at about 4:20.
Hot chocolate will be served by the Georgetown Lions Club. The Lion’s Club will be collecting non perishable food, liked canned or packaged groceries, as well as money for the Redding Food Pantry. Checks may be made out to “Town of Redding, Food Bank.”
As always, Rudolph and Frosty will be passing out candy canes. The tree will be illuminated about 4:40.
Members of the high school service group HOPE are also helping with the day’s event.
If there is threatening weather, call the Park & Rec. office before leaving home on the day of the event at 203-938-2551, ext. 3.
Parking for the tree lighting will follow the standard town Concert on the Green parking policy. Parking is along one side of Route 107, extending to Redding Elementary School, the town hall and post office parking lots and the Congregational Church parking lot. There is no parking permitted along Lonetown Road Extension or down the hill from the police station.
