The town has awarded All-Brite Electric Inc. of West Haven, the low bidder, the contract for three new generators for the town. The generators were included in the current budget.
Steve Gniadek, the town’s finance director, said the firm’s bid was a total of $203,400, including electric installation costs. The town had budgeted $230,000 with an annual lease payment of $57,500. The actual lease payment will now be $43,782, or a $13,718 savings to this year’s budget, and $68,500 over the term of the five-year lease. The town will own the generators at the end of the five years.
The town is purchasing and installing a generator at the Redding Community Center and at the Police Department. The Police Department’s generator will be used at the town’s transfer station. A portable generator is also being purchased to use at town hall, the Police Department, or the Community Center.
Mr. Gniadek said hookups will be in place at all three town buildings should the portable generator be needed to replace any generator that doesn’t work.
“This gives us an extra backup to the whole system,” said Mr. Gniadek.
Because of the low bid, the town was able to purchase a light attachment for the portable generator so it can provide lights where needed.
The generators will be up and running in about three months, the amount of lead time that is required.
