Elizabeth Tomko, 18, daughter of Michael and Karen Tomko of Redding, recently completed her homeschool career through high school and graduated last June. She was accepted at several top engineering colleges and chose to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute this fall, majoring in robotics engineering, with a possible double major in electrical and computer engineering.
Ms. Tomko’s passion is designing and building robots. During her high school career, she completed honors level work, concentrating on math and the sciences with a special emphasis in electrical engineering and robotics. She also attended enrichment classes at Massachusetts Institute of Technology through their program called SPLASH, and competed in the Science Olympiad, winning several awards.
During her junior year, she was invited to join FIRST Robotics Team #1099 out of Brookfield High School because of her extensive knowledge of electronics theory and its practical applications. With her brother Christopher, she also mentored a rookie FIRST Lego League team in 2011. Her many other interests include pre-1916 vehicle restoration, Shakespeare, piano and art.
