A busy day was not without its fair share of success for the Immaculate-Joel Barlow High wrestling team at the Classical Magnet Duals.
It was one of eight teams competing last Saturday, Jan. 26. Facing four opponents, it posted victories against three by beating Thomaston (51-12), Classical Magnet (52-6) and Sports Medicine and Sciences Academy (56-15) but losing to Griswold (36-28) to place third overall.

Breaking even was Aidan Buckley, who went 2-2 on the 132-pound class. Dave Gombos did likewise at 160.
Immaculate-Barlow was without a few wrestlers when it hosted Oxford three days earlier. Such was the difference in the match as it fell 43-30.
The hosts did well a first, winning the first two weight groups. Allen pinned Zach Latka at 138 pounds and Bartlett won by forfeit at 145.
The Wolverines then responded by taking four straight, including 152 pounds when Steve Persson pinned Tennant at 152. Mitchell Wright pinned Gombos at 160.
Another pin for Oxford came at 170 with Marlin Simon defeating Kowalski. Although Dante Hristu avoided the pin at 182 pounds, he lost a 6-1 decision.
Ghossani stopped Oxford’s streak by pinning Andrew Temple in the 195-pound class. When Andre Hristu pinned Brendan Carothers at 220 Immaculate Barlow appeared to be in good shape.
However, it had to forfeit four of the next five classes, including 285, 113, 120 and 126 pounds. Its lone win during this stretch came at 106 with Broderick winning by forfeit.
Now 13-14, Immaculate-Barlow is at Brookfield on Saturday at a time to be announced and goes to Weston on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
