Solarize Redding-Easton-Trumbull has generated more than 427 inquiries from residents from all three towns interested in a free home assessment to see whether their home is a good fit for solar, reports Susanne Krivit, chairman of the Redding Clean Energy Committee. This degree of growing interest has occurred since the official launch of the campaign on Sept. 22.
Of these, nine have already signed contracts, collectively generating 72.8 kW of power, which is enough to move the program into the Tier 3 discount level, according to Ms. Krivit.
“The Solarize program reduces the cost of solar by leveraging group discounts. As the number of homeowners who install solar increases, the price drops for everyone in Solarize Easton-Redding-Trumbull, encouraging buyers to tell their neighbors about the program,” Ms. Krivit said in a statement sent to The Pilot this week.
There will be a solar installation open house on Saturday, Dec. 7, from noon to 3 at the Neubert household, 30 Wimbledon Lane, Easton. Sunlight Solar, the official installer for Solarize Easton-Redding-Trumbull, will host the event, provide refreshments, and answer questions about the program and how solar works.
“Ten Redding homeowners are already enjoying the benefits of solar on their homes, and an additional three contracts have been signed since the Solarize project began,” Ms. Krivit said.
Redding solar homeowners Rich and Gail Regan said, “We have been very happy with our decision to install solar panels. Supplying our own energy is a great feeling, in addition to reducing our carbon footprint. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, since they were installed in 2010 our panels have required nothing more than inputting the required Solar Lease quarterly meter readings.”
To qualify, Redding residents must sign a contract by Feb. 9, 2014.
