Joel Barlow High School students will “strut their stuff” on Sunday, April 3, as part of the annual Catwalk for a Cure event at the Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield. They will show off casual wear for young adults, as well as formal prom attire.
The event — which requires tickets that are on sale today — raises money for the Norma Pfriem Breast Care Center.
“We find it really important because the center helps women who can’t afford health care to get regular breast cancer service,” said co-chair senior Sophie Eng.
The center’s direct, personalized support for underprivileged women encouraged another co-chair, senior Emily Powell, to get involved.
“This can directly affect another person’s life,” she said. “When we ‘sell’ mammograms for a $50 donation, that could literally save someone’s life.”
Every member of the Joel Barlow team will independently raise at least $150 for the event, and each will donate a silent auction item.
Clothes for the event are provided by a number of local retailers, including Lord & Taylor, South Moon Under, Splash of Pink, and Camillo’s.
“It’s a whole array of clothes, from casual to fancy,” said co-chair Marissa Falcone. “And Lord & Taylor will be providing prom dresses.”
