Learn about Young Life on March 18

Young Life members are shown enjoying summer camp.An informational meeting on Young Life is set for this Sunday, March 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 21 Werf Drive in Redding.

For the past seven years, Young Life has made an impact in the lives of middle and high school students in the community. Hundreds of Redding kids have attended a Young Life or WyldLife club as well as a weekend or summer camp.

Young Life doesn’t start with a program. It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don’t happen overnight — they take time, patience, trust and consistency.

So Young Life leaders log many hours with kids — where they are, as they are. They listen to their stories and learn what’s important to them because they genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks.

Young Life believes in the power of presence. Kids’ lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, and because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, will impact future decisions … careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised. All ripples from the time when someone took time to reach out and enter his or her world.

Sunday’s meeting will be led by Peter and Colleen Kolf. It is an opportunity to learn more about the Young Life program in Redding for middle and high school students. The discussion will be on the Young Life (high school) and WyldLife (middle school) programs, summer camp opportunities and how students and parents may be involved in this program.
