Fitness studio celebrates fifth anniversary

Michell Maturo’s Elevation spinning and personal training studio is celebrating its five year anniversary in November.

Ms. Maturo calls her fist five years at the Georgetown boutique “very successful” and looks forward to expanding her offerings in the coming years, she said.

The fitness studio is one of its kind located at 4 Old Mill Road in Georgetown.

“The location is great, bordering the four towns — Redding, Weston, Wilton and Ridgefield,” she said. “I also have an experienced staff with diverse backgrounds that challenge our clients.”

Elevation offers several different formats of working out — spin class, private personal training, TRX, and kettle bell workouts.

Ms. Maturo added 900 square feet of space for TRX classes. TRX is a “huge modality,” she said. Used by the Navy SEALs, TRX suspension training combines gravity and body weight to perform various exercises that develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability.

“There are also two full-time personal trainers plus myself,” said Ms. Maturo. “There is at least 25 years of experience in this building. The appeal that Elevation has to clients is the privacy and personalization of their workouts.”

“I’m paying people good money to teach spin class. We have seasoned experts which makes it more personalized,” she said. “Each person has their own specialty. I’m known for cycling, another person is known for kettle bells and personal training.”

“Elevation has the level of comfort that isn’t found in a bigger gym,” she said. “No ones feels that they aren’t fast enough or they’re too heavy to go in to a different area or someone is staring at them. The one on one training feels comfortable for clients.”

Personal trainers sit with clients and discuss what they would like to focus on.

“We do goal setting in a realistic way and we talk about what it takes to get there,” said Ms. Maturo.

When looking at the next five years and beyond, Ms. Maturo said she doesn’t have the desire to open another location but to expand on the programs at Elevation in Georgetown.

Not only did Ms. Maturo purchase new spin bikes but said she also wants to expand Elevation Adventures, doing more programs outside. According to Ms. Maturo’s website, Elevationspin.com, Elevation Adventures will offer seasonal activities: road cycling, mountain biking, trail running, road running, snow shoeing and hiking.

“I want that to really get going in the next year,” she said. “We needed to establish a reputation first so people are confident in us.”

Unlike a corporate gym or fitness center, Elevation does not have gym memberships.

“It is à la cart,” she said. “There are different packages — it’s simple.”

Clients can pay for one session at a time or buy a bulk of sessions and schedule the time when it’s convenient for them, she said. Clients can also do trial sessions and participate in a free class to see if they like it.

In part of celebrating its fifth year, any client who joins or renews sessions at Elevation will receive 10% off.

“It’s a thank you to our clients and a welcome to new ones,” said Ms. Maturo. “I want people to know I am present in the industry. I do whatever I can to stay on top.”
