Diane Gaboriault died peacefully in Redding on her 59th birthday, Nov. 16, 2012.
She graduated from Wilton High School in 1971 and from Knox College in 1977.
She struggled with a degenerative neurological condition her entire adult life and was never able to work.
“Diane was a voracious reader and books were stored in every available space throughout her apartment, including the kitchen cabinets,” her family said. She taught herself to read Russian, Italian, German and ancient Greek. She taught herself to play the recorder as well.
“When many people would have quit, she never gave in and willed herself to walk until nearly the end. Ironically, it wasn’t the disease that she fought so hard against that ended her life, but an aggressive cancer that she couldn’t fight,” her family said.
She is survived by a brother Peter and his wife Brook of Wilton; her niece Jessica Connolly and her husband Thomas of Hartford; and her nephew Thomas Gaboriault of Stamford. She was predeceased by her mother Elise (2009) and her father Andrew (2010), both of Wilton.
