Church groups help property owners by raking leaves

Members of Christ Church Parish raked leaves for six residents over the last two weekends. In back, from left, are Barry Anderson, John Davey, Joey Davey, Gloria Davey and Emma Gallagher. In front, from left, are Chris Kimball, Fran Kimball, Catherine Litz, Graham Litz and Orris Litz. Members from St. Patrick Church also raked leaves on one large piece of property and did a significant amount of tree trimming.

Christ Church Parish and St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church reached out to six Redding property owners who wanted some help raking their leaves this year. Groups from each church raked leaves over the last two weekends.

“We were inspired to begin this outreach program by the Handy Dandy Handy Man program in Brookfield, where they rake many lawns all over town,” said the Rev. Marilyn Anderson, Christ Church rector. “Last year a group of people went up to participate in Brookfield with hundreds of other volunteers. We were inspired to try this for Redding properties. Hence the name ‘Redding Rakes’.”

St. Patrick Church sent their youth group to tackle a large property that needs raking as well as some significant tree trimming, Ms. Anderson said. Christ Church  sent intergenerational teams to the six properties.

“We hope that next year more houses of worship will join us,” Ms. Anderson said. “We also hope others from the community, even if they are not affiliated with a house of worship, will join us.”
