Toy drive aims to help neighborhoods in Queens

Redding Neighbors and Newcomers invite the community to join them for a holiday gathering and toy drive to bring relief and the holiday spirit to those who were among the hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.

The club has teamed up with the Greybeards to bring the community together to collect toys to be distributed at a holiday party for children from Breezy Point in the hard hit Rockaway neighborhood in Queens, N.Y.

The club will host a cocktail party Friday, Dec. 14, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Redding Community Center. The evening will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and holiday treats with friends old and new. The cost is $25 per person.

Participants are asked to bring a wrapped gift for a child aged 5-13. The gifts should include a tag indicating the appropriate age and gender of the recipient. Local volunteers will be heading to Breezy Point on Sunday, Dec. 16, to host a children’s holiday party and to distribute the gifts.

Those unable to attend the party are asked to consider donating a gift. They can be dropped off at the party or by contacting Carolyn Baker at publicity@reddingneighborsandnewcomers.org or 203-664-1607.
