Stadium field improvements: Committee is close to moving forward

Gale Associates, the consultant hired by the Region 9 Board of Education to conduct a study and come up with a proposal for improvements at the stadium field at Joel Barlow High School, has provided the Fields and Facilities Committee with a draft report.

Chris Hocker, committee chair and board member, said a lot of attention has been given by the committee to the stadium improvements. It will have a recommendation on a scope to go forward with the next step, he said.

“We got a good and clear draft report,” he said. “Improvements are evaluated in terms of major components and we know the relative costs of each [item].”

The lower end of the improvements could cost more than $900,000 and the high end would be mid-$3 million, he said.

“That would be doing everything from soup to nuts, including things we weren’t considering,” said Mr. Hocker.

The Facilities and Fields Committee plans to meet again before the next school board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

In regard to working with Gale Associates, “we could not have done better with this consultant so far,” he said.
