Roads are slippery

Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. — Highway Superintendent Jeff Hanson reports that the road are very slippery. He said roads were pre-treated earlier and the plow trucks have been out at least once on the roads. One of the exceptions is Cross Highway, where the road was plowed and sanded twice.

The snow is coming down “fast and furious,” he said, but added his crew is keeping up with the snow.

“We don’t want to scrape the roads bare, he said, explaining that if the bare roads freeze, they’ll be like skating rinks. He wants to leave the pre-treatment on the roads to prevent this.

According to his forecaster, said Mr. Hanson, the snow will turn to rain in the next few hours, most likely around 9 p.m. Early morning temperatures are predicted in the 30s with mid-morning temperatures in the 40s, he said.

He cautioned that some roads may be slushy earlier tomorrow morning.

The highway crew is “in for the duration,” Mr. Hanson said.
