Winter Shakespeare set at farm

Jim O’Reilly practices his role in Hamlet during a previous Winter Shakespeare program for high schoolers at New Pond Farm. The new program begins Jan. 14.

Scenes and monologues from one of William Shakespeare’s greatest plays will leap off the page and onto the stage in New Pond Farm’s Winter Shakespeare program, an intensive eight-week acting program designed exclusively for high school students.

Renowned director and actor Nancy Ponturo, along with accomplished actor and educator Julia Levo, “will create an exciting and positive environment in which actors will delve into a comprehensive exploration of the play Julius Caesar, the farm said in its release.

Students will develop skills in text analysis, character development, vocal technique, and acting craft. Key scenes (using non-traditional casting) will be woven together and performed for an invited audience during the last class.

The program runs Mondays, from Jan. 14 through March 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Pond Farm’s Indoor Learning Center.

Tuition is $250 for New Pond Farm members and $275 for nonmembers.
