Openings remain in after-school programs

The town’s Park and Recreation Department has announced that it has room in its Preschool and its Extended Day, Junior programs.

Extended Day Junior is a relatively new program that offers an opportunity for building socialization skills while engaging in a wide variety of age-appropriate activities.

Staff members from Extended Day (Amy Sugden and Sarah Ewud-Kilburn, “Mrs. E”) will be offering daily arts and crafts, cooperative group games and dramatic play. There will be an emphasis on making good choices during social interaction and cooperating in a group.

The Class ratio will depend on class size but will not exceed 6:1.

Special Information: If your child attends a Redding Elementary School  preschool class that dismisses early enough, the staff can pick up the child at his or her classroom with a parent’s written permission to the preschool teacher.

When registering, ask for Extended Day Junior’s special yellow notes for daily use. Also, the end time should make it convenient to drive around and get your older child from the walkers’ room or make it home in time for the bus, the department said.

Extended Day Junior is held Tuesday through Friday when the elementary school is in session except  when the school has a minimum day. The program is for children ages 3-5 and runs from 1:30-2:30 in the Extended Day  classroom.
