The fire, which was reported at around 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, is in a multi-family apartment complex at 56 Portland Ave., according to the report. One resident of the home, who had minor burns and smoke inhalation, was sent to Danbury Hospital, according to the report. No injuries have been reported as of this time. Easton police to purchase new handguns

Easton police will be replacing their current handguns with a slightly smaller and lighter handgun. The department now uses Glock 21 full-size .45-caliber guns, which will be traded in and replaced with Glock 19 compact .45-caliber weapons. Some officers have complained that the current guns are too heavy, too big, hard to shoot at long distances, and difficult to grip correctly, according to Easton Detective Kent Lyman’s recent presentation to the Police Commission. Former Redding resident pleads guilty to sexual assault

  A Redding resident pled guilty Tuesday to several sexual charges involving a minor in a case that also involved the arrests of a former Redding Board of Education chairman and her husband. Appearing in state Superior Court in Danbury, Stephen Overby pled guilty to first-degree sexual assault with a person under the age of 13, risk of injury to or impairing the morals of a child, and first-degree possession of child pornography. Redding Phone Scam A New Fairfield resident reported receiving a phone call from the Redding police. The caller said the Redding Police Department was soliciting donations. The phone number of the person who called is 203-405-2958. Whitepages.com has a record of the phone number being a scam with 21 reports of fraud calls. There were 175 calls from this number and 104 searches on it. When police called the number, an answering machine picked up. Redding police are warning the public to be aware of this scam. Water main break reported off Gate Ridge Road in Easton

Crews are working to repair a water main break in Easton. The break, off Gate Ridge Road in lower Easton, was reported around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, according to Easton Police Capt. Richard Doyle. “The water was bubbling out of the ground,” Doyle said. However, he added it is a very small street so there was “not a big disruption of water,” he said. “There is very, very minimal damage caused by this.” The cause of the break is unknown. Easton police warn residents of phone scam

  Easton Police have been receiving multiple reports of phone scams in town, according to officer Jay Festa of the Easton Police Department. “The caller says a relative has been kidnapped. The caller then threatens to hurt the victim unless he gets cash,” Festa said. “The resident is told not to contact anyone, to just wire the cash immediately.” The Easton Police Department received four reports of these calls alone on Friday, Feb. 9.
